My imagination took it one step further and starting popping that accent into every day life. My friends and I would talk to each other that way, and I used to always talk to myself as though I were British, and eventually got really good at it. To this day I pride myself in my English accent impersonation. Ask me about it, I'll show you.
The only problem is that sometimes it comes out when I really don't want it to.
For instance: A nice English lady comes in to get her teeth cleaned (I work at a dental office). I take her back, all the while chit-chatting about her life and growing up a few miles away from Buckingham Palace. She, of course, has a THICK accent, which I absolutely love! I soak it in, and in my mind study every little inflection and bounce of her voice. It's like a song.
The lady stops talking. She turns to me and asks...."So do you have any children?"
I reply, in my BEST English accent, "Yes, actually...a one year old named Grace." I immediately realize what I've done. The lady totally thinks I'm mocking her. Are you kidding me Abby?? I ask myself. AGAIN?! It's sadly not the first time. I pretend like I'm out of gloves and run away as fast as I can. I regain my composure, tell myself I was raised in rurrral Idaho, and walk back in, smiling as if nothing happened.
Embarrassment.
The only thing is...it's not my fault. It's genetic. My Mom is really good at her Spanish accent, and has had this exact same mis-hap occur once or twice...you'll have to ask her about it. Thanks a lot Mom!
Seriously, what is wrong with me?! I wish I could say I have the gift of tongues, but I think I actually just have some sort of disorder.

hahaha, so sorry. I've done this before. Maybe next time just laugh it off and tell her how you've always wished you had an English accent. Where did this lady live? We sold our townhome lease to a lady and her husband and she was from London.
Abby that's too funny... What did she say to you when you came back in? LOL
so funny!! I think I've done that before with a Spanish accent.
It happened again!? Abs. You've got to get control over that!
I remember study sessions where you and Betsy would break out the old English accents ; ) My dad does that sometimes with Navajo's. I don't think he even realizes he's doing it, but I think it offends them because he is clearly a "Billagona" (White man).
yeah...its awful. when i was a receptionist, i'd just copy whoever called...southern, aussie, irish, whatever.
its a genetic disorder. and mom's spanish accent is really, really bad. in a good way. but bad.
I always catch myself talking like that to strangers! My twin and I only talk to eachother with an English accent:)
