Flashback friday: first day of school

***I haven't done a flashback friday in a while, my scanner was being weird, but I fixed it today...back in business!

I love back to school season. There's a change in the air....not quite the chill of fall, but you can feel it coming. I've been finished with school (college) for over 3 years, and a little part of me misses it. I see the kids around town in their new fancy school clothes and I remember what it was like to get all dressed up for the first day of school. I loved to see all of my friends, and see what outfit they picked for the first day. Let's be honest, that's what the first day was all about anyway. I loved getting school supplies and seeing who was in my class. What a fun time....and then all of the fun wears off about 3 weeks in and you want it to be summer vacation again.

This picture was my first day of school EVER. Kindergarten. Note my fancy shirt and jumper combined with high top sneakers. Classic me, the tom boy. How was I supposed to race the boys at recess with girly shoes on? I was just being practical. I remember crying when I got on the bus for the first time that day. It was scary. I remember seeing my mom standing on the sidewalk as the "purple" bus drove away, and wondering what I got myself into. I was used to staying home with her and having fun all day. Little did I know, that day was the beginning of a 18 year process. Overall I really loved where I went to school (in Burley), and feel so lucky to have had the teachers and friends I did.

(I still think Southwest was the Best in the West, and Dworshack's a Dogshack! Jared and most of my friends went to Dworshack elementary, I went across town to Southwest. BIG rivals :))

I showed Avery this picture and she said "it looks like Brady with a pony tail!". I didn't think of it but it does! I don't think of you two looking alike but you do!

This is the little girl I remember as my little buddy.....love you!

Lol! That is too cute! I miss those days too. And I totally remember those colored buses they would pin on our shirts! Do you think they were big enough!?!

I rode the purple bus too! Southwest... More like SouthPEST!!! Both you and Eric went to the wrong school because everyone knows that Dworshack rocked!!! Eric starts school on Monday and I told him we needed to go "school shopping" to pick out his first day of school outfit. He just looked at me like I had lost my mind.

I can't begin to say just how lame Dworshack was. Few (very, very few) Dworshack students ever reached the same exceptional quality of students that Southwest churned out class after class. It's really pretty sad how lop-sided the elementary education at Burley was....

I'm glad you've recognized that, Abby. :)

My little school girl. So cute and ready for her education to begin. You have come along way from that first day. It is an exciting time of year, and Gracie will be there before you know it.
love, Mom

And what school is still a school? Yeah, Dworshak. If Southwest was so cool, why isn't it still a public school? (And no lame comments about being "too cool for school.") That's what I thought. ;-)

I was talking with my great aunt Juneal about the kindergarten buses. I totally rode her bus, the red bus. But my to-school bus was the purple bus. I guess I had my bus and rode it, too. ....whatever that means!

Purple bus for me.

And I went to Dworshack. And we all know how awesome I turned out to be-right Scott? ;)

We couldn't become best friend until we were at the same school...Dworshak rocked! Good thing they united everyone at White Pine and now we're all pals.

ps I love the sneakers and no teeth showing smile--I have lots of those too.
