{softball, 10 miles and the happy grads}

The drill team has struck again. We thought there was no way we'd have a game this week, since there were walls of black thunderstorm clouds headed our way...lucky for us they went right around the softball fields. Playing time comes and one of our teammates, Krista, is nowhere to be found. Her name is on our line-up, so that meant we'd have to take an out every time it was her turn. Luckily, my sister Melinda, who was just a spectator (or so she thought!), wore her best softball shoes and was officially "Krista" the whole game. She did great! Her kids and my Dad took care of Gracie (which Grace loved, don't let the picture below fool you...). After the softball game I hurried home and had a nice big spaghetti dinner in preparation for my 10 mile race the next morning! My friend Marilyn and I have been running a lot in the last few weeks and decided we should do it. We got to the meeting place at 6:15 a.m., they bussed us up to the starting line (up Provo Canyon 10 miles), and made us wait for an HOUR in the rain before the race started! They know how to get everybody all jittery and nervous...finally we started running and it was perfect weather, kind of cold and wet at first, but it really felt good as soon as we started running. The main thing is that it's such a gorgeous run. I did this 2 years ago with my sis-in-law Jenn, and loved it. It's so pretty up Provo canyon. Marilyn and I finished it in 1 hour 24 minutes. We were happy. Now...we are sore.
Later that day...my sisters and I planned a little "graduation" party for my parents, (combined with a birthday party for my niece) . My mom finished her Masters degree last month in Education, and my Dad finished his Doctorate this month in Physical Therapy. We're all so proud of them! They are such good examples of always wanting to better themselves and really work hard....Way to go Mom and Dad!!!

They aren't going to walk at their graduations, so we had our own little ceremony. I made them graduation caps so they could really feel officially graduated. You can tell they felt smart just wearing them:
We celebrated with a delicious barbecue, and had Jen's house all decorated when they walked in...we hung signs and crate paper all around, had a cake and little cute graduation cap cookies. I think they liked it....and let's be honest, it was fun for us to plan. :) The party was followed by a lovely trip to the temple with my family. It was such an awesome day and a BUSY, fun weekend!

Wow Fabs, you got skillz! Yes, skillz with a "Z"! What can't you do? Here's some suggestions for things for you to conquer: Mt. Everest, sushi-making, law (and then teach me!), playing the lute, and Russian. You're the best!

Great job on your run!!! You are awesome!! That is such a fun course and I had a blast doing it with ya 2 years ago-- I'm actually a little jealous that I wasn't there running with you guys, but since I haven't ran in FOREVER, it wouldn't have been a good idea-- maybe next year.
